FAQ
Top Questions Travelers Ask When Planning a Tanzania Safari
Planning a safari to Tanzania is exciting, but it often comes with many questions especially for first-time visitors. From choosing the right time to travel to understanding park options and entry requirements, these FAQs help travelers feel prepared and confident as they design their perfect safari adventure.
The best time for wildlife viewing especially the Great Migration is during the dry season (June to October). Animals gather around water sources, grass is shorter, and visibility is excellent.
However, the green season (November to March) is great for fewer crowds, lush landscapes, and predator action during the calving season in the Southern Serengeti (January–March).
The most popular parks are:
Serengeti National Park – famous for the Great Migration and big cats.
Ngorongoro Crater – a wildlife-rich natural wonder with all the Big Five.
Tarangire National Park – known for huge elephant herds and baobab trees.
Lake Manyara – great for birdlife and tree-climbing lions.
For a more remote experience, Ruaha or Nyerere (Selous) are excellent options.
A typical Tanzania safari lasts 5–10 days.
5–6 days is enough for the Northern Circuit highlights (Serengeti + Ngorongoro).
7–10 days allows you to explore multiple parks at a relaxed pace or combine north and south.
More days give you better wildlife encounters and less rushed travel time.
Tanzania offers a range of stays to fit all preferences:
Tented camps – immersive, close-to-nature experiences with comfortable amenities.
Mid-range lodges – solid comfort and good facilities.
Luxury camps/lodges – premium service, gourmet food, and high-end comfort.
Even tented camps can be very luxurious, with ensuite bathrooms and fine dining.
Visa: Most travelers can get a visa on arrival or apply online for an e-visa.
Vaccines: Yellow fever is required only if coming from a country with risk of transmission. Recommended vaccines often include typhoid, hepatitis A/B, and routine shots.
Other documents: A valid passport with at least 6 months validity and proof of onward travel.
